Roots and Wings

Roots and Wings

The Wexner Heritage program seeks to expand the vision of Jewish volunteer leaders, deepen their Jewish knowledge and confidence, and inspire them to exercise transformative leadership in the Jewish community.

The program fulfills this mission by educating up-and-coming Jewish lay leaders in the history, thought, texts, and contemporary leadership challenges of the Jewish People. In 2012, The Wexner Foundation launched its first-ever cohort exclusively for Russian-speaking Jews.

With the support of Genesis Philanthropy Group, in 2013-2014 an enrichment track, called Roots and Wings, was introduced for the Wexner Heritage Program's Russian-speaking Jewish cohort. The track includes components geared specifically towards the Russian-speaking Jewish participants.

Financial support for this program was provided by Genesis Philanthropy Group, along with the Wexner Foundation and other generous funders.

Goals and Objectives

  • Expanding and strengthening the Russian-speaking Jewish lay leadership community.
  • Deepen the participants’ understanding of their unique experience and strengthen their identity as Russian-speaking Jewish Americans.
  • Examine the rebirth of Jewish life in the post-Soviet era and derive inspiration for exercising leadership in Jewish life in North America and globally.
  • Build connections between the cohort and local Ukrainian Jewish lay leaders
