Maccabi USA

Maccabi USA

Maccabi USA endeavors, through sports, to perpetuate and preserve the American Jewish community by encouraging Jewish pride, strengthening Jewish bonds and by creating a heightened awareness of Israel and Jewish identity.

The volunteer organization seeks to enrich the lives of Jewish youth in the United States, Israel and the Diaspora through athletic, cultural and educational programs.

In 2013, the 19th Maccabiah Games were held in Israel, with more than 7,000 world-class athletes from more than 50 countries competing. Genesis Philanthropy Group supported Russian-speaking Jewish athletes age 13-16 by helping to subsidize the cost of their participation in the Games. In addition to two weeks of athletic competition, Team USA Juniors and Open athletes participated in a week of cultural and educational programming called ISRAEL CONNECT. This included touring Israel, a B'nai Mitzvah ceremony led by two team rabbis, and a Lev L'lev day of volunteering that taught Jewish values and gave back to the community.

After the completion of their trip to Israel, the sponsored athletes volunteered at Foundation-supported camps and other programs, with the purpose of inspiring their peers by telling them about their Israel trip, experiences competing in the Maccabiah Games, and participating in Maccabiah-style camp athletic competitions.

Financial support for this program was provided by Genesis Philanthropy Group along with Maccabi USA.
