Centropa Summer Academy

Centropa Summer Academy

  • Grant period: 2013
Centropa is a Jewish historical institute dedicated to preserving 20th century Jewish family stories from Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

In 2013, this grant subsidized the participation of Russian-speaking Jewish educators from North America in Centropa's annual Summer Academy, which took place in Berlin. For this conference, 75 Jewish educators from 15 countries came together to brainstorm best practices in Jewish education. Educators watched Centropa's multimedia films and discussed how to use them in classroom settings, as well as attended workshops run by their peers. Additionally, educators visited important historical sites in Berlin, such as the Soviet War Memorial in Treptow, where they discussed Jewish contributions to the Great Patriotic War.

Financial support for this program was provided by Genesis Philanthropy Group along with the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, EVZ Stiftung, Ebert Stiftung, Adenauer Stiftung, Rothschild Foundation, and Polinger Foundation.
