Rimon

Rimon

  • Grant period: 2010-2012
The Rimon educational project initiated youth international camps in Israel for teenagers with Russian-Jewish background from all over the world.

In 2010, a joint initiative of Genesis Philanthropy Group and the Jewish Agency for Israel led to the establishment of two international camps: "IsraCampus" and "Ma.Com".

"IsraCampus" was initiated and conducted by the Institute of Informal Education (INO) - a well-known organization in the world of informal education, which opened its first youth camp in Israel in 2009. Camp "Ma.Com" was organized by the Jewish Agency for Israel - an organization which is well experienced in youth camps in the FSU, but held its very first experience in this field in Israel.

Both camps were different in their educational program and offered the participants a wide range of activities. Young participants had an opportunity to learn about their Jewish cultural heritage through chosen field of activity. Additionally, during the camp sessions they met with Israeli cultural leaders, attended various historical and cultural sites, theaters, museums and went on exciting hikes.

A total of 240 Russian-speaking children attended both camps in 2010 – 160 from Israel and 80 from Russia. The summer of 2011 brought together another group of 240 children, and the summer of 2012 welcomed 280 kids from Israel and FSU.

The project was funded jointly by Genesis Philanthropy Group and the Jewish Agency for Israel with support from JUF/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and UJA Federation of New York.
