Velimir in the Promised Land: An Interactive Educational Project for School Children

Velimir in the Promised Land: An Interactive Educational Project for School Children

In 2011, the Association of St. Petersburg and Israeli Actors created an interactive educational program – a puppet show called Velimir in the Promised Land for pre-school and elementary school age children. The show was created in collaboration with the ORT-SP Educational Resource Center for High Technologies and with support from Genesis Philanthropy Group. It introduced children to Jewish culture and highlighted the importance of friendship and a readiness to understand and help others in the contemporary world. More than 1,000 children attended the show between May and November 2011.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.

Goals and Objectives

  • Create an interactive educational project introducing younger school children and pre-schoolers to Jewish culture.
  • Adapt the script of an interactive show to the goals of the project.
  • Attract a wide number of children from Jewish and non-Jewish families.
