Advanced Programs at the Melamedia International Center for Informal Jewish Education

Advanced Programs at the Melamedia International Center for Informal Jewish Education

The Melamedia International Center for Informal Jewish Education is part of the Institute for the Study of Judaism in the FSU, led by Rabbi A. Steinsaltz. The Center's main goal is to develop the field of informal Jewish education (IJE) and to popularize the culture and traditions of the Jewish people. The Center develops training programs for IJE professionals, various forms of family education and new teaching methods for age-differentiated groups. It also creates a central information repository by uniting and coordinating the efforts of various organizations that work in IJE.

In May 2009, with the support of Genesis Philanthropy Group, the Melamedia Center conducted its first seminar for the second cohort of trainees in advanced programs in IJE. A total of three professionals in IJE and community work from various cities in the FSU took part in the first seminar.

In addition to support from the Genesis Philanthropy Group, the seminar was also supported by the UJA-Federation of New York, the Russian Jewish Congress, the L.A. Pincus Fund for Jewish Education in the Diaspora, the Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany and a number of private donors.
