Interesting Past Educational Tour Center

Interesting Past Educational Tour Center

In 2009, the Interesting Past Educational Tour Center opened at Hillel CASE. Genesis Philanthropy Group supported the Center by awarding a grant to train professional tour guides who would organize tours to significant sites in the Jewish history of Kiev and other Ukrainian cities. Project participants were young adults, ages 18 to 26.

Twenty participants received training in professional tour guiding, developed itineraries for future tours and published several illustrated, information brochures on Jewish Kiev and Jewish sites in Ukraine. In addition, members of local Jewish community organizations were given several free tours.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.

Goals and Objectives

  • Strengthen the ties of Ukrainian Jewish youth with Russian-speaking Jews from other countries and with the larger Jewish community.
  • Develop a new method of engaging Jewish youth to study Jewish history.
  • Provide professional training to future tour guides, publish information brochures and develop a website.
