Footprints in the Sand

Footprints in the Sand

In 2011, Genesis Philanthropy Group supported the Moscow Jewish Communal House in creating a series of animated films based on the Tanakh using modern technology – specifically, sand animation. Footprints in the Sand consisted of a series of workshops and filmmaking sessions with participation from students attending Moscow universities and the Mesivta High School.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.

Goals and Objectives

  • Involve Jewish youth who are students in Jewish schools and other members of Jewish communities in a creative process.
  • Cooperate with Jewish schools and organizations.
  • Create animated films based on chapters from the Tanakh in a format accessible to wider audiences.
  • Promote the films among Jewish audiences.
