A Game is a Game: A Series of Seminars on Theory and Practice of Games

A Game is a Game: A Series of Seminars on Theory and Practice of Games

In 2012, with support from Genesis Philanthropy Group, members of the group, Informal Jewish Education to the Masses offered a series of one-day seminars on game-based teaching methods for Jewish event organizers in St. Petersburg.

The seminars presented the theory and practice of games, and demonstrated and analyzed original games. For their final projects, participants created their own games – the best projects will be used by the participants' organizations in summer camps and retreats.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.

Goals and Objectives

  • Offer continuing education to event organizers working in Jewish camps by teaching them new game-based methods.
  • Popularize game-based teaching methods.
  • Select the best projects developed by participants and test them in summer camps and at other Jewish events.
  • Publish the best original games online.
  • Develop a set of instruments for developing new games.
